Strategic Command Nominee Testifies Before Senate

Senators expressed concerns regarding the nuclear threat from hostile nations.

U.S. Air Force General Anthony Cotton testified last week before the Senate Armed Services Committee as President Biden’s nominee for the commander of U.S. Strategic Command. The Strategic Command oversees unified forces from all five military branches and monitors all aspects of America’s Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications (NC3).

With the Chinese nuclear threat on the rise, the committee asked General Cotton how he plans to manage both the traditional nuclear threat of Russia along with this new global competitor.

“While the current system is secure and resilient, modernization and sustainment of this capability is just as important as the weapon system platforms themselves,” General Cotton told the senators. “If confirmed, I will use my authorities to ensure that NC3 systems continue to outpace the threat.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the members of the Senate Armed Services Committee as they review and assess General Cotton for the position.
  • For General Cotton as he proceeds through the confirmation hearing.
  • For discernment for President Biden as he appoints individuals for roles within the government and military.
